CTC 20th Annual Rally
Well how lucky were we then ? The sun shone on the Rally as
if there were no tomorrow, people were coming saying that it was raining on all
sides but ner a drop came down upon us. We had a bit of a scare on Friday when
there was a few drops falling but after that it was almost wall to wall sunshine
as you will see from the following photographs. |
The Rally was officially opened by Janet Ethorne on Saturday afternoon with the theme for this years Rally being "60 years of Nuffield" which of course also included Leyland and Marshall models. |
There were also of course all makes of tractors exhibited with there proud owners parading them in the ring for everyone to see. just outside the main ring taking almost the complete side of the main field were a wonderful display of Stationary Engines. |

The photo above on the left shows how far a real tractor enthusiast will go to follow his passion. The chap who owns this "unit", Ken Greenfield, who comes from just outside Nuneaton, takes his annual holiday visiting Rally's around the country. He was told of our Rally and the Nuffield celebrations we were holding so he included us in his itinery for this years tour. BUT it wasn't just us ! On the way down he visited a Rally in Wiltshire then set off on the long journey down to us, pulling, as you can see, a 28 foot trailer with his "other" Nuffield on it, then attached to the back of that his camping trailer making a 40 ft convoy overall behind his 10/60 ! Unfortunately on the journey down he encountered engine problems but with kind help from Leon Vanstone, normal service was resumed. On leaving our rally Ken then drove back home taking in another Rally in the Bristol area on the way! Also driving to us was the gentleman in the right hand picture who drove his 10/60 from Wales to attend the Nuffield extravaganza, now that's dedication !! I know that there were many more visitors who came great distances, but surely these two deserve a mention. |

The crowds were entertained by the "Dancing Diggers"( wouldn't like to have been driving that tractor would you ?) |
Then it was time for the parade in the ring |
The Nuffield's displayed themselves well |
As did the Leyland's and there were quite a few very rare machines as well. |
Not everyone was in awe of the machinery and at the end of the day a few still had enough energy for some sheaf pitching. |
There were lots of other attractions in progress with a good show from the working section |
There was also a great turnout from the
Commercial section, a selection of which are shown below and also a great show
from the motorcycles, the cars and the Dog Show |

Then of course on Sunday it all started again. (Great weather as well!) |

There was lots to do, publicity photographs to be taken and things, but there was also time to just sit and relax and listen to some music. |
The Children came into their own in the afternoon and started to pull John Knuckey and his Ford 3000 around the ring. I'm not sure who won the tug-of-war ! |
And there was another great display in the Craft tent. |
As this year was the clubs 20th Annual Rally the committee
decided that we should change from the usual coasters and that all
exhibitors should receive a commemorative CTC china mug. Thanks must go to all those who helped organise, set up and dismantle everything and lets hope we have the same sort of weather for next years Rally. |
With thanks to Kathryn Knuckey for the photographs
