Yorkshire
MAY 2007

The month of May saw CTC members and friends visiting the beautiful Yorkshire moors.

Our hotel "The Royal" was located in the heart of Scarborough overlooking the south bay and within a few minutes walk of the town centre and all the attractions.

The Hotel itself was most prestigious, lovely Regency architecture, spacious rooms, wonderful regal staircases, an absolute pleasure to stay.
The food was second to none, excellent varied menus and choice

Our days out were spent visiting a Jet (jewellery) Heritage centre where we learnt that jet was not from coal but from decomposed Monkey Trees.

A journey on the North Yorkshire Steam Railway took us through "Heartbeat" country where we stopped  and looked around "Aidenesfield" visiting "Scripp's Garage" and other places which feature in the television series.

Bempton RSPB reserve with its fantastic cliff tops and sea views was definitely worth a visit as it was like a summers day !

On then to Castle Howard which has been used in many television programs and films

Our day out in York was very good, the Railway Museum was so interesting that the men especially didn't want to leave

Some members visited the Minster and the shops in the "Shambles"

One day we arranged to meet a fellow collector of tractors and machinery, Mr Don Redhead, who welcomed us with tea, coffee, filled rolls and cakes then telling us to explore where we wished. It was a real old fashioned Homestead with Bantams nesting in tractor seats waiting for their eggs to hatch.
He collected all sorts including a variety of combines and an assortment of animals. He was a very genuine gentleman who was very pleased to receive our gift of Cornish Goodies,

One day was spent in Scarborough. The Ladies went shopping, but the men with itchy feet and a few of the ladies decided to visit an old army camp with a huge number of buildings kitted out with wartime artefacts, the comment on their return being "fantastic!!"

All in all, Yorkshire turned out to be everything we hoped for and more, beautiful villages and countryside, first class hotel lovely trips and as always, wonderful company.
